Anthropic opened its fifth Asia-Pacific office in Singapore on October 14 and signed an agreement with the Singapore government covering AI safety, model evaluation and responsible adoption. Claude already powers Singaporean business and government services used by millions of people each day.
Singapore pact covers testing
The memorandum of understanding with Singapore’s Ministry of Digital Development and Information sets out cooperation on AI safety, security, model testing, research into AI’s effects, and responsible use across government and business, according to Anthropic’s announcement and Channel NewsAsia’s report.
The two sides plan technical exchanges with Singaporean AI safety and assurance institutions. The work is expected to include testing standards, model evaluation and responses to incidents involving advanced AI systems. Anthropic also said it will share research and data, including findings from its Economic Index, as Singapore develops its AI rules.
Claude already serves millions
More than 1,500 engineers and technical staff at GovTech Singapore have adopted Claude Code to modernize government systems and speed software delivery, according to Anthropic and Channel NewsAsia.
DBS uses Claude for software development and workplace tasks, while Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund GIC is deploying it across investment and corporate services. Grab uses Claude in a sales assistant that Anthropic says saves about 40,000 hours each quarter.
Fifth regional office opens
The Singapore location follows Anthropic offices in Bengaluru, Seoul, Sydney and Tokyo. The company said Singapore ranks second among 121 countries for Claude usage relative to population, at nearly six times what its population alone would predict.
Anthropic said it will look for ways to strengthen AI skills in Singapore, help small and medium-sized businesses adopt AI responsibly, and support the government’s goal of building AI capabilities among public officers. The office is open and hiring, according to the company.
