Apple introduced HomeView, a $299 smart display that combines AI-powered Siri, entertainment and smart-home controls in one device. The launch is part of a broader group of Apple home products announced October 13. Axios reports that Apple also unveiled a new speaker, streaming device and connected accessories.
HomeView adds a household screen
HomeView has a 7-inch Liquid Retina display, a built-in speaker and versions for tabletop or wall-mounted use. Apple says it can play music and podcasts, support FaceTime calls, show news and control compatible lights, locks, cameras, thermostats and blinds. It can also display up to nine camera feeds at once. (Apple Newsroom)
The device can recognize up to six household members by face. Each person can receive a separate home screen and access personal information from apps such as Messages, Calendar, Reminders and Find My. Apple says personal data is shown only when the recognized user’s paired iPhone or iPad is nearby and recently unlocked.
Siri connects Apple devices
HomeView uses a new version of Siri with broader conversations, screen awareness and access to personal context when paired with a compatible Apple Intelligence device. A conversation started on HomeView can continue in the Siri app on an iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch or Vision Pro, according to Apple.
Apple says Siri requests can be processed on the device or through Private Cloud Compute. The company says data handled through that cloud system is not stored or made accessible to Apple. Those privacy claims will matter as HomeView brings microphones, cameras and personal information into a shared living space.
November launch tests demand
Preorders began October 13 in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, India and New Zealand, with shipments starting November 13. Apple says HomeView is not currently sold in the European Union because Siri AI is unavailable in iOS there. English-language Siri support is limited to selected countries at launch.
The product enters a smart-home market that has struggled to move beyond early adopters. Axios cited Circana data showing that U.S. smart-speaker sales by dollar value fell 9% in 2024 and another 7% in 2025. Apple’s device ecosystem may help HomeView, but consumers still have to decide whether they need another screen in the home.
