Volkswagen Expands Copilot to 330,000 Employees

Volkswagen Group has equipped more than 330,000 employees with Microsoft Copilot, according to Microsoft’s October 21 announcement. The rollout brings AI into daily work across engineering, production, procurement and sales.

330,000 workers get Copilot

The rollout began with broad access to Copilot Chat. Microsoft said more than 300,000 monthly active users used the platform during that phase.

Volkswagen has since expanded its use of Copilot with Work IQ for more advanced productivity tasks. Microsoft also said more than 26,000 agents were active across the group during the previous month.

Copilot spans business functions

Microsoft said the deployment now covers work from engineering and production to procurement and sales. The companies described the effort as a phased expansion from AI-powered chat toward broader use of agents in business processes.

The announcement does not provide an independently verified measure of productivity gains or savings. Microsoft said the deployment is intended to help employees work more efficiently, make decisions faster and improve knowledge-based processes.

Fabric data expansion planned

The companies also intend to expand Volkswagen’s Intelligent Data Foundation on Microsoft Fabric. They said the effort is meant to make trusted company data easier to find, understand and use across the organization.

The collaboration will be featured at Microsoft’s AI Tour in Cologne, Germany, on October 22, 2026. Volkswagen’s Sophie Vassarotti and Microsoft’s Rupert Stuetzle are scheduled to present the company’s approach to combining employees and AI agents.
